The Bible - Command from God.
Disclaimer: No matter what you read in this post is just a wild opinion of mine. Just questioning some facts. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% do believe in God as our creator, and to Jesus Christ our savior.
Every Lenten season most of the businesses are not operating to pay respect the moments that Jesus Christ save our souls. And businesses including TV stations. All TV stations are just playing different Biblical stories. Some are even translated to Tagalog in the Philippines.
During the Good Friday, we were able to watch The Bible. It's a story of different prophets before Jesus Christ was born. And these prophets started living as a man, unlike Jesus Christ whom we know God's own son sent to Earth to save us from our sin.
During the viewing, I started questioning some part of the stories. Maybe some of the plots were made only to emphasize the scenario to strengthen viewers' faith. But for me, it is way different.
I was not able to see the beginning of the film, nor finishing it. But here some of my point of views.
Abraham

Let's start with Abraham.
In the film, he is being commanded by God to claim a promised land. Abraham was commanded by God to built and recruit number of people to be his followers. His mission is to bring people as many as the stars in the sky to be able to start the life believing in God in the promised land.
Abraham has two sons. Which named Isaac to his half-sister and wife Sarah, And Ishmael to Hagar, Sarah's handmaid.
Hagar and Ishmael were sent away from the village so that Abraham will focus to Isaac as the only heir of God's promise.
In the film and was also confirm in Abraham story in the Bible, Abraham took his son Isaac on top of the mountain as offering to God. According to the story, God told Abraham to create an altar and sacrifice his own son as a proof of his faith in God.
Isaac laid in the pile of sticks like a sheep offering. Crying and asking his father of pity, while Abraham is ready to struck a knife to his own son.
But did not accomplish it. Upon drawing a knife and about to stab Isaac, God's angel stop Abraham and instead took the nearby sheep as the sacrifice.
In My Honest Opinion
Abraham acts seem not aligned with what is being taught in the Bible and one of the Ten Commandments, Thou shalt not kill.
Why would anyone believe that he is talking to God if he is telling us to kill? Worse, our own son. I mean, if I would hear a voice telling me to kill someone and claiming that he is God, I wouldn't believe. Would you?
I would think that it is the devil I am talking to. I think Abraham has something in mind more than following God.
If Abraham is just present nowadays and did the same act, he can be accused of Attempted Murder and there is no excuse for that.
Joshua

Then there is Joshua. Joshua headed a somewhat an army that will claim the promised land. Being situated by greedy people and leaders. It should be taken by force.
Joshua headed an army after the death of Moses who saved Israelites from Egyptian pharaoh through a parted Red Sea. After the successful escape and delivering the 10 commandments. Joshua started to use force in claiming the promised land.
In the story, Joshua and his army surrounded the whole village following the God's command of circling the village for several times. On the last turn, Joshua and his army attacked and killed numerous people living the village except for the family of a certain lady that I forgot the name. But she is the one who saved the Israelites when they secretly checked on the village.
So Joshua and army attacked the village. Where **killing is the way they have in order to acquire the land.
Swords, dagger, and shield clashing with each to other until the promised land is finally owned by Israelites.
In My Honest Opinion
So my opinion again is about the Killing. And again, why would God tell us to kill someone in order to get what we want. And why a certain place? Isn't there other villages that can be a promised land?
Joshua is a tough guy continuing the mission of Abraham through the use of force. Anyway, the village has been sinful, such as drugs, sex, and alcohol. It's like Ibiza during the day that Jesus is not yet being born.
But still, our God will not ever tell us to take someone's life. Especially Joshua who seem thirsty for blood and willing to claim the land that promised by God.
The Bible Film
I did not finish the movie anymore because I felt having a sin in questioning the prophet's activities before the birth of Jesus.
Again, I do believe in God as our creator and Jesus as our savior. But the previous prophets have done something against the will of God.
In my opinion, maybe they have other plans aside from following Abraham's prophesy. A plan for their own. And through the use of God's name, they will be feard by the enemy. since God is being famous and getting more believer.
The story is written in the old testaments. And there are stories that still made me ask why did it happen, and How?
But again, we do not really know what happens during the time before Christ was born. Bible was a piece created by a person who then just listen to the stories around him/her. But as the story said, as long we believe in God, there is nothing to worry about.
It is the faith that makes everyone stronger and faith will also tell us the truth about what happened during that time.
But now, let us commemorate how Jesus sacrifice for our sin. Let us remember that somewhere out there, God is looking at us and making sure that we are safe at all time.
