A Review about "The Blue Danube Waltz" by Johann Strauss II
So today as I was listening to an amazing Classical piece, I decided to start writing my feelings about it and the way I see its structure, from the intro to the ending part of this piece, it is called The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss II (Strauss was an Austrian Composer and this piece was composed in 1866).
The music piece starts with Violin Spicatto and what I usually remember from this sound is a kind of alarm feeling but in this piece, it can have another meaning and feeling which it gives us, I think when the next line is added with another instrument playing melodies over the background violin, it adds a kind of feeling like a deep dream which it is also in a kind of slow-motion, makes you feel comfortable and you don't feel hurry, this is really amazing as we hear fast melodies with spiccato and then the slower melodies make the whole music sound soft and slow, I think that this kind of music reminds us of old movies and cartoons, what I love about classical music is that it is alive, it goes back there and then it comes back to the front and we can hear the sounds close to us.
I love the changes in 0:30, when the chord changes the whole story in your mind, the feelings, it is really great like if it gives us an alert like something bad is happening, the music keeps going forward so soft and slowly till 0:57 which in that part there is a piece which makes you feel if it is a ceremony or a music for dance, then after a silence there is the main melody starting this time with a rhythmic style with staccato Viollin in the background, and violin answer melodies and slowly the music tempo goes higher and higher which makes it interesting, as it keeps going forward we can hear a kind of glorious and celebration sound in the music and the horns somehow added more power to the music but it also reminds me of army (cause I usually heard that Horns were used in army or as a war sign) but we hear in this section is somehow sounds like a music which was played for the people in the castle as a ceremony music, after minute 4 there is a huge change while it somehow keep a connection with the first melody. slow staccato performs and the emotional melodies performed with strings above it, then with the Horn sound suddenly the rhyme becomes more energetic and rhythmic, at 5:20 that sections slowly fades away, and after that, it is like opening a new chapter the sounds becomes soft again and performing a kind of lovely and happy music at 6:07 the power adds again to the music we can hear the drums sound more clear in here it is like army drums sound. 6:37 we hear new melodies played right after the drums fill ends the previous section, at 6:53 the music gets back to 2:30 section with the same mood and tempo but this time it transitions to a new section it has a beautiful wind and strings melodies in that section and it also ends with a rising and it is transitioning to a section with more space that there are fewer instruments playing and as it goes forward the strings, horns making a great climax (7:49 reminds me of James Bond Theme music) again after a pause we get back to the main melodies which have a beautiful feeling in it. I think the ending part is a summary of the whole music piece which Strauss get all the feelings and pieces of his composition together and added this part.
Though this might not be as professional as it has to be and it is really hard to talk about classical pieces but I tried to write what I understood from this amazing piece, I hope you guys enjoyed listening to and reading my review of this music.
