One of the greatest ingredient that make any nation great is the industriousness of its citizens. Industriousness means the earnest, effort of people to work. Another definition for industriousness is a constant, diligent or hard-working altitude to one’s employment, business, enterprise or work. The opposite of industriousness is indolence, laziness or idleness.

Industriousness depends on talents and training. A person who lacks the talents are training needed for s specific enterprise will be of no use to that enterprise. He will report for duty but will not be able to perform any duty because he lacks the skills for the duty. Sir Joshua Reynolds an English portrait painter, once say, “if you have great talents, industry will improve them; if moderate abilities, industry will supply their deficiencies.” So, to possess talents is one things; to employ such talents industriously is of very great advantage is one indeed.

A person who has talents and does not use them may lose his or talents. A person who wishes to make to make a worthy contribution to the welfare of human society must apply his talents in the service of man. If he has no talents or ability or skill for the work that he wishes to do, he/she must sacrifice his time, her leisure, her money and her pleasure for the training required for the work. A person cannot demonstrate a good sense of industry in his work if he refuse to receive adequate training for the task. Even if he has talents for the work, such talents must be trained or developed.
Industriousness can be demonstrated in the work that we do only if we have the right attitude to work. There are three attitude we may take to the work that we do.

First: we may regard our work as a means of getting our daily bread only. If this is your attitude to work, then you must apply as much effort to it as is equal to the pay that you earn. Such an attitude to work does not usually receive much industriousness. It is felt that there is no need to apply serious efforts. You apply just enough efforts to enable you earn your daily bread. Many people in our world today apply this kind of attitude to their work.

Seconds attitude that we need take to work is to regards our participation in that work as our contribution to the building of our nation. People with this of attitude are patriot and worthy citizens in our midst. They report for work early, are diligent at work and do not report sick when they know too well that they healthy and sound. Our attitude to work as citizens of our country must belong to this category.

Third attitude to work is not that regards work as means of getting one’s daily bread. It is not one that defines work as participation in nation building. But it is an attitude that regards work as something that a man must do in order to be regards as belonging to the working class. Such an attitude to work has no utilitarian purpose. It is of no advantage to anybody, not to the man himself.

A person who is industrious in the work that he does enjoys a great measure of happiness and a sense of mission.
