I Tried To Add More Memory Into My Computer

Well, since my main computer is temporally not working, I am using my spare computer as my main computer now. I wanted to add more memory into it as it only had 2 gigs in it.

I have been wanting to add more memory into this computer when I first got it, but the price made me wait. Now that I am using this computer as my main computer I thought I should spend some money on it.

I order two sticks of 2 gigs each from Amazon. Well, they came by mail and yesterday I decided to put them in. I find that there was a lot of cat hair stuck at the air intake areas of my computer. My cat does like to lay on the computer tower at times.

After I opened it up I see some more cat hair and dust in areas. Well, I just took out my shop vac and started vacuuming those areas. It was good for me to get the excess dust out of there since the computer is opened anyway.

Now it is time to remove the 2 sticks of 1 gig each. That was easy enough. Then I put the brand new 2 sticks of 2 gigs each.

Then I closed it up and start the computer. I should have left it open when I tried to start the computer after installing the new memory.

Well, I turned the computer on and it did go on, but nothing happened. It didn't open up Windows or anything. What? Something went wrong.

So I open up the computer again. Double check the connections and still nothing. Then I put back the old memory sticks and it works just as before. Wow. I got some defective new memory. I still wanted to experiment.

I took one of the new memory sticks and with just one I got nothing also. Then I tried the other new memory stick and that one worked. The computer started up with no issues.

Then I tried to add in the other two older memory sticks. Well the computer was operating slower that way. I tried another thing. I just had the working 2 gig stick and one 1 gig stick. It worked pretty good that way.

I wanted to keep the one 2 gig stick and send the other back. Well, I went to Amazon and clicked the return section. They didn't have a keep one part of the order and send in the non-working part.

So I sent them both the working stick and the non-working stick. They did have a way to print out a return label that I could just attach it to send my package back.

I double checked the maximum amount of memory I could put into this computer. I find out that I can put 8 gigs of memory in.

Well, the price has gone down. I didn't want to use the same seller. I found another seller, selling 2 sticks of used memory at 2 gigs each for under $20 with free shipping. So I ordered 2 of those units for a total of 8 gigs of memory.

Wow, 8 gigs of memory for about $39. They also mention that they check each use part to be working properly and also they give a lifetime guarantee for that part. Well that sounded good to me and I made that order.

So I send back the first set of memory that didn't work totally well. Then I bought even more memory that I wanted in the first place. I can't wait for that order of 8 gigs to come to me.
