Jagannath Temple Kolkata, West Bengal a visual delight .
Hello There ,
Recently we planed to visit Jagannath temple at Khidirpur , Kolkata. I came to know about the fascinating history of this temple which i thought worth sharing .
History :
In search of better livelihood labour class people from the state of Odisha migrated to Kolkata,West Bengal to work in 1950's .It was then they has a photocopy of the lord in paper which was placed on a makeshift temple .
The Paper Photograph was replaced by color paintings made on wood board, which continued till 1968.
Later the labour community was removed and a temple was decided to be set up by 26th January 1969. A team was set up back then for that cause called "Sri Jagannath Seva Samiti" .
The initial temple complex was 20ft in height and the entry doors very low. It was difficult to pass through the same.
Then Income Tax commissioner Sri Prasanna Kumar Das was visiting the temple with his father. While entering the temple his father got hurt at the entrance.
The above incident helped the renovation of the temple complex and a high rise complex was build which stands tall till today .
