Is it Worth it?: A Quiet Place
Light Spoilers( kind of, not really, it sucks so who cares)
Is A Quiet Place worth seeing in theaters? First ask yourself, can people ever be quiet in a movie theater? Let's face it, even when not talking people can make a lot of noise. Popcorn rustling, drink slurping, coughing, whispering, phones vibrating, you will hear it all with this movie. Most of the movie is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. So naturally this will not work well in a theater with even a modest number of people. I would have to say for this reason alone, do not see this movie in the theater.
Now aside from that, I still would not recommend this movie. Quite frankly it just wasn't that good. The plot was weak and falls apart with passing scrutiny, the threat is a non issue with even a little forethought( and there is absolutely no way these things would last a week in the U.S.), maybe an outbreak in an isolated area might be frightening but given the weakness of the creatures no even halfway modern military would have any trouble killing these things. If the plot had been confined to an isolated location it would have been much more tense and believable, a country or worldwide infestation is just laughable.
This movie was marketed as a "scary" movie, but it was more funny to me( and the people I saw it with, not just my opinion on this one). I will be going in to what made this movie so ridiculous on Tuesday( I'm going to give people a chance to see it before I spoil everything) but suffice it to say I laughed quite a few times during this "scary" movie. I'm not quite sure what the people reviewing this are talking about when they say it was deeply affecting and tense. Normally I can see where critics are coming from even if I don't agree with their opinion, but to say this movie is anything other than a shlocky movie is really stretching the truth. This is no Let The Right One In, this is more The Wicker Man (Nick Cage version, if you haven't seen it, it is hilarious).
All I can say is not this movie, not in the theaters, and remember leave your nine months pregnant wife home with your teenage daughter while you take your son to a place where you can make all the noise you want, and don't forget to yell like a moron to tempt fate.

Oh gosh was planing to watch this.. then I saw your posts and I have a second thought now. Didn't read the whole post as I'm afraid of spoilers...lol. Since thriller is one of my staples...I might not go to the cinema but think of another way as I need to fully concentrate on it to appreciate the screenplay more.
Yeah if you want to watch this one definitely do it at home, or maybe go to a late show on a weeknight.
Thanks for the tip @darthnihilus!
Haha. Yeah I often don't go out to see movies for a lot of these reasons. I definately won't pay to see this one but I may check it out when it hits HBO in a year or so.
