The Waterfalls Near Iligan City Part 13

in #travel7 years ago

My former high school classmate who wanted to remain anonymous has emailed me numerous pics of his hiking adventures around some of these spectacular waterfalls which he visited. There were a bunch of these photos in his hard drive available so I decided to make them into a series of posts with his kind permission.

Dodiongan Falls

The waterfall is located somewhere in the thick vegetation area of Barangay Kabacsanan, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.

But before we are going any further talking about the waterfalls, we shall learn some local words. As we already knew where to find the waterfalls, it is somewhere in Kabacsanan. The local word "Kabacsanan" means a place with many pythons. That sounds scary, doesn't it? The locals just don't name the place for the hell of it and in some instances, large python snakes really still roam the place.

Here is another good example of a Tufa Limestone formation. The rock wall of the waterfalls is called Tufa Limestone. Dodiongan Falls is the tallest Tufa Limestone waterfalls my classmate has ever visited.

The rock wall of the waterfalls grows a few millimeters from time to time. We don't know exactly how much. My classmate hasn't measured it.

The waterfalls is as high as a 6 story building. We can't exactly guess or estimate how long in time its been forming.

As we can see from here, the rock wall on the left has more growth as compared with the right. It is probably related to the amount of water pouring from above, where carbonate minerals precipitate from the ambient temperature.

Standing here whilst taking the photo, my classmate could feel some occasional shaking of the ground. Heavy rains from the night before brought a lot of water downstream. Much of the boulders below came from above. They fell from the cliffs during heavy rain and typhoons.

Much recently during the Severe Tropical Storm Washi, known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Sendong in 2011, some people residing nearby drowned from the sudden overflow of water from the river.

Just above Dodiongan Falls, adventurers can find 2 more waterfalls. That will have to wait until next time. But, for now my classmate is confident he will be finding more waterfalls somewhere nearby.

Awesome kabayan I will try to visit Iligan when I get back home to CDO this November or December looking forward to meet the famous @darthnava

I am not that famous but you are welcome.

Everlasting waterfalls..

They cleanse your energy and raise your vibrations.

I love nature, I would like to visit.

The falls looks breath-takingly beautiful and looks clean too.
But it's in Lanao. Tourists can't go there sadly but for the locals it is an excellent place for a relaxing excursion.

It is not that dangerous. It still Iligan City territory.

That is good to learn about @darthnava
I see that there isn't much people there too, good to relax with peace and quiet.
Damn I will die not being to experience going to a falls. T-T
