I was never able to get into Ridge Racer but that has not stopped me from recognizing its place in changing console gaming on the original PlayStation. Now, if we are talking R4 then I am all in and love that one.
This wasn't really one of my favorites either. I don't know that I've even played R4. I tend to either like more realistic games like Gran Turismo or less realistic games, especially cart racing games of which there aren't nearly as many choices outside of Mario Kart.
Rage Racer was another in this franchise that I enjoyed more than the original.
I agree with you about realism or more cartoon based for racing (which the Racer series are not a member of either). There is just something about tuning a car to perfection, learning the ins and outs of it on the tracks and winning by a 10th of a second in a long hard fought race.
On the other hand there is something satisfying about launching a projectile and hitting the #1 racer from the #3 spot and it somehow messing up #2 and you winning at the last second just because you had the right weapon at the right time. Lol.
