SteemChurch: Social responsibility of the church

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Praying to the Lord looking for a biblical reference I wanted to put a woman of example in the Bible, because almost always one sees the deaths in the social after, but I realized that the best model of commitment and social responsibility is Jesus Christ.

When I refer to commitment and social responsibility, I mean, what should be our attitude as believers towards humanity, towards the people of the society, city or nation that contains me and that surrounds me.

Commitment: It is an obligation contracted, says the dictionary.

Obligation: It is a requirement established by morality, law or authority.

Then Commitment is an obligation that Jesus Christ himself has imposed on me as an authority and because of this, I have to commit myself in some way to the society that surrounds me.

Responsibility: Person who is aware of their obligations and acts in accordance with them.

You could ask yourself for a moment, how responsible are you with your personal obligations? Children, House, Economy, spiritual life, self-care ... Surely your answer will be high and super high, and more when it comes to family. What moves you to be responsible ?: Simply something called COMPASSION.

Compassion: It is a feeling that produces seeing someone suffer and that drives to relieve their pain or suffering, to remedy or to avoid it.

Who would like to let the house that comes buying, lose? Who sends their children hungry to school ?, or Who does not take care of himself if he is recently operated?
Would you pay the fee for your neighbor's house? Would you get up earlier to go to enlist the children to the grocer's school ?: NO, because there is no relational link.

What would that link be? A very simple word of 4 letters: LOVE.

After this introduction, we can understand that for me to have commitment and social responsibility it is necessary to have compassion for the needy, and to feel sorry for me, I have to learn to love him first.

JESUS, MY BEST MODEL OF COMPASSION

Studying the word, we find several scenarios where Jesus is truly compassionate. Luke 6:36: "Be compassionate, just as your Father is" compassionate ". (NIV) "Merciful" (RVR1960)
"Rajam" means to be merciful, the funny thing is that when translated into other languages it is translated "Love"

And this is the biblical sustenance of what he announced a moment ago, that to have compassion, to be merciful, we need to learn to Love.

And where does compassion have its birth?

In Isaiah 54: 7 the word compassionate or mercy "rajam" also translates "love, that genuine love with which the Father thought of our redemption through giving his son's life for us.

Isaiah 42: 6-7 "I Jehovah have called you in righteousness, and I will hold you by the hand; I will keep you and make you a covenant for the people, by the light of the nations, 7 so that you may open the eyes of the blind, that you may bring out prisoners from prison, and those who dwell in darkness out of prison. "

Luke 4: 18-21 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted; to proclaim liberty to the captives, and sight to the blind; to release the oppressed; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord ... And he began to say to them: Today this Scripture has been fulfilled before you. "

Announced and then ratified by Jesus himself at the beginning of his ministry.

WE OBSERVE SOME SCENARIOS WHERE JESUS WAS COMPASSIVE, FOCUSED ON HIS MINISTRY ACCORDING TO THE TASK HE CAME TO DO ON EARTH:

  1. Compassion for the sick: Open the eyes of the blind. Matthew 20: 29-33. Luke 17: 12-14 Luke 10: 33-35

There is something interesting in this context, in the case of lepers; Within these 10 men there was one who was not a Jew, he was a Samaritan. He was not from the family, he was not from the land, they did not know him, but he received compassion.

  1. Compassion for the prisoners. Luke 23:25, Thief on the cross

  2. Compassion for the unsaved .. John 9:39

Unfortunately, we are used to being compassionate to ours, to acquaintances, to family members but not to those in need.

This is why the church should not operate alone with different growth strategies and feel satisfied. It is necessary to operate through the social work. If you can do both tasks. Win build and send, and in turn actively participate in social work through the visitation of the sick, prisoners and the needy; Only in this way will we be doing the complete task, according to the model, responding to the commitment acquired with God for Love.

Some think that as the vision that God gave them as a church, the priority is to reach souls, but clearly we see that in most of the records of Jesus' ministry, people were won because He met their needs: (eat, dress, health, freedom, knowledge, attention, forgiveness ...)

And it causes me even more impact when reading the text in Matthew 25: 31-46, where this commitment is not presented as an option, but as a deep duty of which if I do not exercise, I really need to be revealed because otherwise, its consequences transcend to eternity.

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his throne of glory, and all the nations will be gathered before him; and he will separate one from the other, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will put the sheep on his right, and the kids on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right: Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Because I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you picked me up; I was naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; in prison, and you came to me. Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry, and sustain you, or thirsty, and give you to drink? And when did we see you a stranger, and we picked you up, or naked, and we covered you? Or when we saw you sick, or in prison, and we came to you? And the King shall answer and say to them, Verily I say to you, as soon as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me. Then he will also say to those on the left: Depart from me, cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Because I was hungry, and you did not give me food; I was thirsty, and you did not give me drink; I was a stranger, and you did not pick me up; I was naked, and you did not cover me; sick, and in jail, and you did not visit me. Then they will also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, or in prison, and we did not serve you? Then he will answer them, saying: Truly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of these least ones, you did not do it to me either. And they will go to eternal punishment, and the righteous to eternal life. "

This is an apocalyptic scenario of a part of the final great judgment where great importance is given to 5 aspects that have to do with the neighbor.

This does not mean that by the works we inherit the kingdom of heaven, it says the word that it is by faith that we will be saved, but if it clearly illustrates that there is a reward in fulfilling fully the great commandment that is Love and that it requires to fulfill it to be counted as sheep, which will be an argument in favor against the day of the Great Judgment.

Are you aware of the social responsibility we have?

Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the stranger, clothe the naked, tend to the sick, visit the captive?

It is not too late to start, do not wait for yours to know those who are going through a crisis in order to put the ministry into practice.

Get involved with a foundation, an NGO, project social work in the church or partner with another ministry for it.

Psalm 145: 9. Exercising compassion is not programmable. It is permanent. Because it is part of our being, it is a gift.

It is part of the essence of God, placed in us.

Make sure you are not going to be counted as a kid.

Our duty as Christians is to show an attitude of mercy towards the most vulnerable by offering a helping hand in times of need so we show the love of Christ who is in us for his church, thank you dear friend for your publication.

Thanks for this wonderful write-up
As a Christian and church, it is our duty to be compassionate to people out there and also stretch out the hands of love.
One of the best ways to win the heart of people or probably unbelievers is through our deeds and characters because people want to read us more than they read the bible.

It is our responsibilities:

Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the stranger, clothe the naked, tend to the sick, visit the captive?

That is a wise saying "Get involved with a foundation, an NGO, project social work in the church or partner with another ministry for it"

The church is our responsibility, because we are the church.
by faith that we will be saved, but if it clearly illustrates that there is a reward in fulfilling fully the great commandment that is Love

We as the church is expected to carry on from the point where Jesus left and complete his will.
This I wonderful and a comprehensive writeup.

The social responsibility of the church should be possessing the attribute of Jesus Christ in whatsoever it does. The church's responsibilities is to do what Jesus did on earth and not the other way round.

Taking the burden our our neighbors as ours is what makes us good Christians. Thanks for this article

well pointed out, when talking about social responsibility compassion says everything, we must all show compassion this servers to differentiate us from every other religion, even Gods compassion we should always be grateful for it,it is the reason we are alive today. Nice post and well resteemed by @steemchurch thanks

Great post @darlenys, one of the great responsibility of the church is to cater for his members the same way a shepherd caters for his flock of sheep.
