One of the animals that I kept seeing again and again whilst travelling through the Pantanal was the Capybara. They look a little like super size guinea pigs and infact they are the biggest rodent in the world. Their biggest predator is the jaguar and they are always on the look out.

Because they are always searching for jaguars they are extremely skittish creatures

The Capybara will come out and graze in the day like cattle - but if they sense the slightest chance of danger they let out this super high pitch barking noise that sounds like an alarm. To escape the jaguar they run towards the water and belly flop into it. It's hilarious! Check the end of this post for a couple videos I found on YouTube

Once in the water the Capybara make their escape.

We decided to make a hide in the middle of the bush to observe the local wildlife. Every morning I got to the hide before sunrise to watch things coming to the water. There would be a group coming to this area after us so it was important for me to document which animals came to this watering hole.

In this small hide on my own I got up close to many of the 500 different bird species that call The Pantanal home.

One of my favourite moments was seeing this deer arrive for a morning drink.

@dannystravels I imagine your heart would have been beating fast when you saw the deer taking a drink. I find it's moments like that when I have to concentrate on holding the camera steady to get the shot!

Great post. I'm from Brazil and I'm very glad that you have come to this lovely country. I would also recommend you to visit the South Region of Brazil. It's a amazing place, a lot safer than other parts. The landscape is incredible, plenty of beaches, nature, and beautiful people.
If you ever need any suggestion on a destination please feel free to ask.

Good journey and be safe out there
