Unraveling the Mystery of Dark Matter

in Project HOPE8 days ago

Astrophysics the field of astrophysics, dark mater is one of the biggest unknowns in the modern science. Dark matter constitutes about 27% of mass-energy in the universe, however it is completely invisible and cannot be directly observed or measured. It also does not give out light or reflect light hence the term “dark” is used with reference to it.

There is no direct evidence of dark matter but it is assumed and deduced through the influence it has on visible matter, radiation and large scale distribution of the universe. Field observations of galaxies and clusters of galaxies show gravity effects that indicate the presence of something that cannot be explained by CDM. For instance, galaxies rotate round a center at a speed that, if velocities possess no supporting mass, should propel them apart.

Many theories exist that try to describe dark matter and some of them are; WIMPs and axions. For all the studies and new techniques to detect them, Dark Matter particles have not been directly detected. The discovery of dark matter is a more significant factor that could completely alter the entire perception of the universe and other forces present in the universe.
