Microbiota or microbial flora-resident microorganisms affecting an organism-remain highly significant for human health. Microorganisms are the bacterial, viral, fungal, and other entities that play a major role in digestion, immune and nervous system, and so on, have been found to be in huge quantity in the gastro intestinal tract.

The microbiome that exists within the body has emerged as a recent discovery that plays a crucial role in banning diseases. For instance, an unfavorable ratio of the strains of bacteria in the stomach is referred to as dysbiosis which may warrant obesity, diabetes, or inflammatory bowel disease. One cannot ignore the fact that there is an intricate connection between the gut and the brain, now known as the gut-brain axis that a healthy balance of microbiomes may also be related to healthy brain functions and may cause depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders.

The substances called as probiotics and prebiotics become more known as effective agents influencing the microbiota. Probiotics are the intake of good bacteria with beneficial effects while prebiotics are foods that are taken to support the growth of these microorganisms. They all play important role in sustaining a healthy population of microorganisms for well-being of person.

The more we discover about them, the more solutions to many health problems could be found and the potential ways to avoid or mitigate them with the help of microbial symbiants, which means that the relationship between microbes and people is much deeper than one could imagine.
