Affirmation

Hey Steemers!

I have an idea. I've been dreaming on it for a while and contemplating exactly how I'd like to see it play out. I think I've taken it as far as I can on my own, so I'll send it into the world incomplete and invite others to collaborate.

I want to create some sort of forum wherein people post affirmations. I recently read Scott Adams' How To Fail At Everything And Still Win Big, in which he describes the power of affirmations to propel us towards our goals. As he states, there is no empirical evidence to suggest that they actually work. However, I believe that they correlate with the qualities and actions of happy, thriving humans. I'll elaborate over the remainder of this post; I so encourage dialogue in the comments!

Forming affirmations requires us to compare the present tense to our visions and ideals. Once we have identified the space between the two, we can proceed with intention towards its closure. Think big here! Think upper limits, Grand Canyons, and international space stations. Hold soul mates, the Amazon rainforest, and Starry Night in your mind's eye. I'll share what my current affirmations have been.

1. I, Danielle Schmid, will become a health care professional.
2. I, Danielle Schmid, will learn to love my body.
3. I, Danielle Schmid, will do something important with my blog.
4. I, Danielle Schmid, am a worthy soul.
   
   Each of these springs from my wildest passions and scars. I try to write them in my journal and repeat the words in my head every day. It helps me cultivate focus and viscerally feel motivation. I channel these things into my calloused hands, my critical eyes, and my heart- with every breath. I truly believe that this practice will help to direct my path.
   
   Number 4 is just as important as the others: it is an affirmation of self- love. We often speak to ourselves in ways we NEVER would with another being. Number 4 is my way of infiltrating such destructive self- talk. I want to change the conversation and believe myself worthy of achieving Numbers 1-3. I want the same for you, as well.
   
   So, friends of Steem, what should this forum look like? What can we create that will give people an outlet to affirm their goals and themselves? I am buzzing at the potential of this conversation.
