Define Your Success and Happiness
Ralph Waldo Emerson an american poet and philosopher once said the purpose of life is not to be happy,It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
If you were to think of what was said by ralph, wouldn't that conclude as happiness by the end of it?
Rat Race
We work day in day out, getting work done from 9 - 5 , Monday to Friday. We drag ourselves to work each monday morning and to make us feel good we say it typical monday blues. When tuesday come, we begin to think about coming weekend and working on plans and hope it arrive faster. Wednesday is the day you feel a bit better than yesterday, telling ourselves we are almost there. On thurday, you rush to get this at work sorted out , hoping that finish all the work for the week on that one particular day because you just cant wait to thank God for friday. On friday you goof around while watching the time slowing work itself to 5.
Saturday and sunday flies to fast , the two night of sleep isnt enough, there is so much to do yet so little time only to realized that your so exhausted and at fear because tomorrow is monday. Then the cycle continues.
Overtime, we everything becomes a routine. Our hope then turns to holidays because weekend doesn't seem to matter much anymore. Things get monotonous, uninspired, you simply forgotten that you are more than just that.
“If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” Jim Rohn
Perhaps your life is not the same as what describe above, yet somehow you find some similarity. Things that you do day in and day out is just to ensure the paycheck by month end is there waiting for you, to pay the expensive car loan that really don't bring much value or perhaps a social lifestyle that is expected of you by the people that surrounds you.
Someone said, if you were to hang around with people who received a certain x number of annual income, the likelihood is that you end up achieving or receiving similar amount, if you want more, hang out with those who have more.
This is when the real rat race begin, the more you move upward the social ladder, the time and commitment expected out of you become intensively more. You soon realized that whatever more achieved, is only to pay off a lifestyle to feed the society expectation , a certain kind of society that you wish to be part of, the successful kind.
Coach By Society
Society coach us into thinking what is success and how to go about getting it, but in all honesty isn't success is subjective. The word carry different meaning and expectation to many people. What define success to you may be different than mine. It truly is matter of perspective.
A friend once said , is he get his dream car, big house , then he consider himself succesfull, while another friends said if i can be without debt, not to worry about money , a good car and a decent place of my own while i can pursue things i love , that is success.
These two friends may sound similar in their pursuit of being successful but their end goal is different.
Question, what is success to you and if you were to achieve it , will that make you truly happy? will you get to do things you really love or will you end up in another rat race cycle.
In Pursuit Of Achieving Your Dreams
Dont ever forget to reach out to your dreams, pursue it no matter what. Dont get stuck with dancing on the same weekly rhythm, Dont forget that you are gifted, truly talented and powerful when you set your mind to it. You do have what its takes to be successful and happy based on how you define it.
Remember....
