We just left Long Beach, Ca. We’re at a waiting point to depart for Central America tomorrow morning. One thing not being mentioned is the rising sea.
We lived right on the coast in Long Beach, a public parking lot separated our bedroom slider door from beach sand.
This is a view from the boardwalk, looking at what was our top floor, bedroom window.
The Queen Mary docked in the harbor is the daily view.
That was the second time I lived there, I didn’t meet my wife until after I lived there back in 2014. Then we went back the end of 2017 just buying time (I can’t stay in one place longer than 13 months). Well.... did you know there’s weekly meetings at town hall about the rising sea level? Every Monday evening at 5:30 at 555 E. Ocean Blvd. 90803.
Nobody knows there’s 15 (count’em!) earthmovers that run up and down the Long Beach coast 24/7 building a wall of sand in a effort to keep the Pacific Ocean back—good luck! 24/7 as in Sunday’s, too, and yes, Christmas Day they were fighting the sea.
There’s a channel cut out on Naples island where all of the rich people can motor their yachts back to the docks at their mansions.
You with me? Ok, now check out the human-made channel. All of the little white X’s, back in 2014 I could swim across to either side as exercise. Many people would swim the length:
These mansions right here will be the first to go, once the sea connects again in the middle, they’re gone. This is where the earthmovers are operating on Sunday’s even and even on Christmas Day they were all out there trying to hold off the Pacific.
On either side, both the coast side and the channel side about every 5th house has had a for sale sign in for the last year we’ve been here. The rest are all air b&b or rentals, nobody will buy them.
Ready for this? I, nor anyone else, attempts swimming across that channel anymore, no way! What used to be, at the shortest point, maybe 100 yards is now about 300 yards.
It’s coming @thebigsweed and nobody is talking about it. Eh, thanks a lot for supporting a good cause and thanks for posting this article. I don’t know if you can tell or not but it really motivated me to share what I know.

Thanks for the details concerning this matter. To see these changes first hand makes it impossible for one to deny, what in fact is reality. In the very near future the oceans are going to gobble up much of our existing coastline. Thanks for taking the time to share this reality with me. Hell, this reply could have been a great post. I know that I have disappeared for awhile @dandays. My intention was to catch up on many of the other things I have going on. Time seems to pass at an ever greater speed as I get older. I accomplished most of what I set out to do, and can't believe that almost 2 weeks have passed since I have sat down, and been able to spend some quality time shooting the shit with my pals here on Steemit.
I hope that you and #puravidaville are both doing well. I expect to see some great stuff from you guys once you get settled in Costa Rica!

Oh, @thebigsweed, the posts are coming—promise! From language barriers to acquiring residency and bank accounts, the purchasing of a vehicle with currency exchange borders. Fascinating stuff. I’ve been taking pictures and doing some documenting, wait’ll you hear about me losing my debit card on the VERY FIRST night! <— Yeah, that really happened. I can’t make this stuff up.
