365 Days That Count - Day 148 - Forgotten treasure. 💎

in #life9 years ago

Keeping up with the theme of my weekend I decided to finally tackle something I've been putting off for the longest time. My jewellery. Some woman like handbags, some like shoes, I, like sparkly treasures.

Where ever I go in the world I find something that I can wear as a memory. And people who know me have often given me beautiful sparkly things that have become symbolic of the person who gave it and I treasure accordingly. Over the years I have come up with quite a collection. I regularly give things away with little attachment to them as anything more than things but my jewellery is harder to part with than most and therefore my dressing table sometimes become a little bit of a hornets nest. This time it was a lot!

Finally, and with more than a little trepidation I opened pandora's box and laid the contents out on my bed to sort through.

It was wonderful to be taken around the world, in and out of memories, people's faces flashing through my mind as I remembered bartering in Peru, beachfronts in Bali, city squares in Greece and markets in India.

I went through each charm on the beautiful gold bracelet that my Granny left me, put on necklaces from my best friends, polished rings from my mum, unpacked and repacked my little box of memories from ex lovers. I went through decades and across continents in just a few hours. Finally I put the sentimental things aside and went through the rest, giving away that which I didn't wear or love knowing Florence and Connex's wife, Sara, would appreciate them far more than I did.

Then it was time to repack, by far the worst part of unpacking!

One of the reasons for tackling the jewellery haystack was to try and find a necklace given to me by my dad, sadly, I didn't.

I'm still praying it will turn up, I don't want to believe it could've been stolen, it is too big and too precious! But losing it has been, as always, a lesson. Things need to be grouped and boxed or bagged. I haven't in the past because I like to be able to open my drawer and look at my treasures but this time I decided to make opening the draw pretty and going through it a next step adventure.

After a good two and a half hours and with my back aching from bending over I stood up and looked at the clean, clear space that was now my dressing table, totally unrecognisable from the disaster it had been a few mere hours before.

For the first time in a while I can actually see the table!!

I was also refreshed by my trip down memory lane and energised by the countless wonderful adventures it reminded me of. I have been very fortunate to see some beautiful places and meet some beautiful people in my short life. I do hope I continue to do so! Having tackled the most overwhelming task on my list, the rest of the day turned out to be particularly productive and I took great pleasure in ticking off many items that have featured on my to do's for too long, I even had time to ride and walk my dogs!

A very good start to the week!

Love,

Daisy xx

I know the feelings! Both of the tidy and the untidy dressing table. The necklace your father gave you will turn up when you need it. :)
