Releasing a Humming Bird on the Daddykirbs Farm (2011)
Continuing in the effort to upload my older YouTube videos.
It wasn't long after a home school field trip to a local bird sanctuary that we caught this little humming bird in our hoop house netting. During that trip my kids learned how this bird sanctuary caught, monitored, tagged and released a protected bird in our area. They were able to learn how to handle the small birds so they didn't get hurt.
Visit Warbler Woods Bird Sanctuary to learn more about their quest to protect the Warbler birds of our area.
With this new interest and knowledge it was exciting for us to catch a humming (quite by accident). We used this as a teaching moment for the kids, then we let Luke release the bird. He loved that moment!
We observed the tiny little bird up close taking note of the colors of the feathers and the size of his little feet and long beak. This would not be the only bird we caught in the net before deciding to take it out of the garden so we didn't risk injuring the magnificent tiny creatures.

Glad that you are loading more here on blockchain to preserve them forever...
Yep! ... and it's fun for me to go back 7 years and rewatch each of them :) Luke was so cute. (and still is in a manly way!)
Luke is adorable!
I’m glad you were able to release it unhurt! My kids would dearly love to hold a hummingbird too :)
