Though held by weary flesh
Though held by weary flesh
original poetry & imagesAnd yet dissuading weariness
Instructs my singsong quilling edge;
It wrecks the raw unbridled force
Of thoughtless speech - wild spirit sedge.
In the jungle
Of mad dignity, refinement
& iron precision, claxons ululate:
There is an emergence,
See the clinging smoke?
The city burns itself
Down to clumps
Of grass.
It is well
For the hideous fortifications
To shatter, those digitized gargoyles
Holding back the timid from approaching
The sanctuary of ageless gestures - dark ice
Coats their lifeless eyes, kaleidoscopic with
Misapprehension & distorted glee, and
They force the doughy villagers
To pen their sluggish story.
As Eliot tells us “it is a test… that genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood," dear Daniel.
This is how I felt, @d-end, reading your latest offering. Something of an existential struggle was communicated to me (or perhaps, I projected it) to keep alive and creative and one's will intact.
All art, as I've come to understand it, is a sweet protest against mortality.
May you keep the alchemist's trick of turning even the muck into gold...
Fascinating quote. Quite apt, from my perspective on how poetry communicates. "Sweet protest" indeed! It is making sense of the seeming chaos - synthesizing all experience into some pinnacle of coherence - and as you put it - turning the dregs into something ambrosial. I'm honored by your feedback, my poetic friend @yahialababidi :-)
I never know what to say to you, because you have probably heard it millions of times over and over from one user to different one, but there is just something so captivating in your choice of words and impact they make when read out loud. I bow to you master of words and thank you for never running out of new words and color combinations.
Thanks for those kind words @m31 :-) It always makes me happy, first and foremost, when anyone tells me that it makes a connection or impact. That's most important to me, otherwise I'm just making an intellectual exercise. I really think of writing as magic - and if I can stay in that mindset, I feel like a giddy little child that is just playing around with sounds. Then I hope that feeling will transfer to anyone who reads it, because that is a precious state of consciousness that is lost on many adults in our society. Thank you very much for your engagement with my piece :-D
Wow!! This is classic Decentralized Pen!! Definitely not twitta or fb or instagramma. This is the "quilling edge". I love these words: "It is well." First the "unbridled force" and "wild spirit" and second the "hideous fortifications" shattered. No more will "villagers" be glued to pallor walls to be subdued by the opiates of electrons dancing in their eyes.
They are "forced to pen their sluggish stories."
Amazing. I can see this really happening. The callous on my right hand middle finger has become soft. But through your poems I am challenged to pick up the pen again. Thank you brother for giving us the opportunity to read and grow together with you.
You have that poetic flair @mineopoloy! Yes! By all means write!! Love the image of opiate electrons. You have a gift with interpretation. Feedback like this keeps me inspired to create, because so much of the magic is the give & take of the sharing process. You can always harden that callous up again :-D
Actually, I had quit writing poetry for a couple years before I joined Steemit back in June of last year. I just set myself the challenge to write at least one poem every day and before I knew it, it was one of the most integral and meaningful habits for me. I'd encourage everyone to give it a try. I call my poetry my "abstract journaling" since I try to express everything I'm learning and experiencing through it, in a metaphoric way. It helps me process life and connect with more people. I truly love doing it! I want to spread that love by encouraging everyone to try it.
Once we overcome the judgmental inner voice that is always telling us how bad we are at this or that, I believe anyone can learn to do basically anything well. It is the negative belief systems that hold us back more than anything else. But I'm rambling, and I know you already know this :-D You got me fired up though. Thanks @mineopoly!
Feel free to ramble on. If life on steemit is reading your poems and thinking about it and making an impromptu response... then I am happy to join the rap.
Beautiful poem.
So awesome.
This is great poetry. Great poetry is not literal, almost by definition. As art, it shows us a higher truth that is expressed in a nonliteral, nonlinear way, a way that is completely original to the artist who has composed it. For those that are not fans of poetry, you are missing out a lot. Its not hard to understand.
So the very first thing you have to do is try to tamp down your desire for literal certainty when you encounter poetry. Just read it quietly, then read it aloud, let the words roll around in your mind for awhile, enjoy it as an artistic experience even if you can't extract meaning from it, and don't beat yourself up.
The poem inspired me to write a short one bellow.
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
Thank you for such a deep poem @d-pend.
It is well.
And yet dissuading weariness
Instructs my singsong quilling edge;
It wrecks the raw unbridled force
Of thoughtless speech - wild spirit sedge
Wow such an amazing first verse to this mind blowing poem, I could feel the power send intensity of the flow, the rhythmic waves and the rhymes involved,
Buddy your on another level, this is beautiful 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Although very deep and very essential, I have to admit, it always makes me sad, the grayness of the reality...I'm aware of that but still Life is also educational and is given for our through improvement...
It's good to learn life lessons, we are in the jungle of new issues while we're running away. We sponge soaked with matter and spirit, we must wash our hands in the sacred river. Thank you for exellent poetry @d-pend
Well @d-pend
Oh My God it seems you have a very tight and great grip on the English Language. A few words are completely new for me and for this i have to check the dictionary.
By the way These images certainly have deep message hidden in them.
Amazing Art-graphy and thanks for the Great Poem.
Stay Blessed, Steem On!
