Saying Goodnight
To summon cessation.
Polka-dot pants pray it.
Mothballs in the attic-having
People think about it.
Newspaper breeze contemplate it.
Fidget spinners ruminate on it.
And honkytonkers and punkrockers
Giggle when they whisper it.
Bags-under-eyes-having readers.
Lethargic middle aged men.
Sitting in hammocks,
Bees, rhinos & fleas
Ask for it, please.
The sweetest meeks all
Dig it to some degree
Turned-up noses
Proclaim it
Begrudgingly.
Well-meaning folks
Cherish it in rituals.
At their friends across
Cold parking lots.
Our heads begin
To nod!
Eventually close
Their eyes and
Say goodnight.
Love this! Wonderful use of words. There's a lot of great poetry on here... every now and then I'll come across a poem that makes me want to read it through several times because it's so enjoyable to read. This was one of those. :)
