Dust bucket [Day 75]
Dust bucket
I.
I drop a bucket
Into the well;
Does it fall?
Was it holding
Rusted tools?
Was it leaky,
Wind whistling
Through its holes?
Feverishly,
I shift.
Unlit hours clasp my handle.
Peer into the grainy contents,
Falling upward;
I may as well
Move into the atmosphere
As morning patches my sails.
II.
Behold the
Quilted zeppelin;
How its telescope eyes
Squint as they zoom in—
On the volley of dross
From the bucket's bosom.
Sandpaper, screws,
An arc of earth strewn
To rub on the stone
Of the wall of the well.
Moss that receives
The whirr of the wind
Produced by the pail
As it's hurdling past.
Clank of the chains
Singing their sorrow,
Sailing through air untouched.
Ears of the brick
That perk up to listen,
A song of the vessel of dust.

Ego leads us to continue to go to a dry well, hoping by some miracle the well will be wet again. Sometimes with seasons passing, it can come to be. We pray to make a certain someone loves us, or for a certain endeavour to finally produce fruit. It can happen but the act of insisting and grasping makes the continual pulling up of a dry bucket very painful and tasking.
