Travel Tip: Rabi Castle, one of the most mysterious castles in the Czech Republic

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will show you another beautiful Czech castle with very interesting history, the enchanting castle of Rabi.

Located in the south-western part of the Czech Republic, just outside the town of Susice, the Rabi Castle is a majestic medieval castle that was built on a promontory above the Otava River.
While origins of most Czech castles are known, there are still doubts about who and when founded the Rabi Castle. The castle was first officially mentioned in chronicles in 1380 but experts suggest Rabi was probably built much earlier, perhaps during the first half of the 13th century.

Surveys revealed that the Rabi Castle once used to be one of the most massive and resilient castles in Central Europe, featuring many sophisticated technologies, fortifications, moats etc. Yet, the castle was badly damaged during the Thirty Years´ War (1618 - 1648) and has been deteriorating since then. There have been some conservational efforts but they have not been very successful and the castle is now more of ruins than an actual castle.
However, its unique appearance and turbulent history makes it a very popular spot for photographers and history fans.

Rabi Castle is a real masterpiece. Located at prominent hill by the central course of the River Otava make it more awesome. I read some where it's the biggest castle of Czech Republic by area. Czech Republic has a lot of castles and rich history and traditions. Thanks for sharing @czechglobalhosts

Your country is full of castles! They are very ancient and strange too. This one has a different kind of brick used on its surface. I think that is the main reason for it to be counted as mysterious!

Really Rabi Castle is mysterious castles in the Czech Republic. It has more than 600 years history. This building is highly structured. It's really amazing travel place.
