Week at Cypherglass — Weekly Team Update — March 11th, 2019
Hello EOS aficionados. Fairly slow week on the infra side last week, although we did get with a little March madness in our datacenter. Over the week we vacillated in the BP rankings between 23 and 25, and are still giving it our all to get back into the top 21. Our gear still has a piqued appetite after producing a few blocks last week, and we are working on getting it more nourishment.
Here are some details about the week…
• The most exciting (in a not-so-fun way) that happened last week was a problem with an upstream firewall at our Kansas City datacenter. All of our gear there was unreachable for several hours on Tuesday. Fortunately thanks to our crack team, and robust design, our secondary site was able to pick up the slack. Turns out it was a bug in the Cisco ASA firewall software and after applying a software patch the problem has not repeated.
• We started pricing out gear to test/run a full history node. Our first step would be to add faster all-flash storage and see if the increased IO performance is sufficient to run a FULL history node. The word full is capitalized, as there are several solutions out there that people have been dabbling with that are improvements, but still don't provide full history.
• We met with F5 to review some different options for DDoS protection.

• We should be upgrading VMware vCenter soon. Excited to check out the new version.
