3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3-5
In the word of God we discover that in the city of Corinth there reigned at one time of history ungodliness, the citizens there at one time were flooded with envy, greed, evil and everything bad. But later, filled with the Holy Spirit they were adopted by God being new creatures, children of God. From this point on, the lifestyle of the citizens of Corinth was very different from who they were now in Christ Jesus.
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexual offenders, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
The apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian brothers to not allow their old culture or their old mentality to influence their new life. The apostle Paul was not telling them that they could lose their salvation or eternal life, instead he urged them to leave behind their old ways and adopt the behavior of children of God.
This advice from Paul to the brothers in Corinth is also applicable to us today, salvation is permanent and we can understand that God will never leave us, much less move away from us, we cannot lose something that we have not earned by our own effort, salvation and eternal life come from Jesus Christ, from the sacrifice he made on the cross and that was a gift for us who have accepted the life of Jesus.
11 I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. 12 But the hired hand, who is not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. 13 So the hired hand runs away, because he is a hired hand, and cares not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. 17 Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment I received from my Father.
