Daily Nature Fix: Orchids... Thousands of Them. (Original Photos)
Good evening steemit. Tonight's Daily Nature Fix is going to be about an Orchid expo we went to a couple years ago at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Longwood is an incredibly place to see. It was started by a heir to the Du Pont family fortune in the early 1900's. It has amazingly kept grounds, greenhouses, and gardens. We went during an orchid festival, which was pretty awesome. Now, I'm far from a botanist and I don't know much about flowers or plants, so I can't tell you a lot about the subjects in the photos. On the other hand, they don't need much to be said! Just enjoy the beauty of the flowers. :)
^^^This was awesome. They were the same type of orchids you'd see for sale in Lowe's or Home Depot, but there were hundreds of them planted into two massive hanging baskets. They ended up being two giant orbs of orchids! I have a hard time keeping one alive... I don't know how they do it!
^^^A wider shot of one of the orchid hanging baskets.
^^^Two large arrangements mad out of thousands of orchids. The were set up by each side of the doors leading into the next corridor.
^^^I'm not sure what these are, or if they were even orchids... but they were really colorful.
^^^This was one of my favorite orchids. So dark and somewhat menacing looking. It reminded me of a carnivorous pitcher plant.
^^^They held some kind of orchid competition among different clubs and organizations. This is one of the displays of said clubs.
^^^Another really cool species of orchid.
^^^And closer.
