Daily Nature Fix: Nature's Artwork - Sandstone Slot Canyon. (Original Photos)

in #nature6 years ago

Hi gang. Today's Daily Nature Fix is a few new shots from Antelope Canyon in Arizona. Well, when I say "new" I mean I haven't posted them yet. The trip itself was around four years ago. The DNF a few days ago was about the Grand Canyon, and this was on the same trip. We didn't have anything planned for the 5 days, aside from seeing Grand Canyon National Park, so we just started looking for stuff nearby. That's how we discovered Antelope Canyon.. and what a great discovery it was!

Antelope Canyon is a deep, narrow slot canyon that was formed by a millennia of flash flooding and ancient rivers. It's around a quarter mile long and 100 feet deep, yet only around 6 feet wide (or less) in spots. These photos were taken inside the canyon, looking straight up toward the sky.

Check that out - I snuck a black and white one in there. The rock formations throughout the entire length of the canyon are incredible. Seeing photos of the rock alone, without any sort of reference to what you're actually looking at.. it's not hard to believe that it's some abstract art piece; hence the title of this post. In my line of work, building zoo enclosures, I hope that one day I get to replicate this type of geology inside an animal habitat.

I like this last one a lot. The canyon has small ridge running horizontally throughout it's entirety. You can see these ridges in all of these photos. On this last one though, there are some vertical lines running perpendicularly through the ridges. I assume they were created from water, leaving mineral stains on the wall. Whatever they were, I liked how they looked!

Great job I like it

I found out about this place a few years back, the lines and curves are stunning! It is on my photographic bucket list. Great images :)

Thanks @stevejhuggett! Yeah, I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place. Peter Lik's photo "The Phantom" was taken here and is the most expensive photo ever sold - $6,500,000.
