I bought an onion from the store a few months ago and it started to sprout. So I planted it in a container. I allowed it to grow to seeds and than the flower broke off and it dried up. This video shows you just how easy it is to harvest the seeds from the onion flower.

I was wondering If I could plant some onions in my garden and how could I do it, in order to save some money and enjoy a good onion, they are so small and expensive around here. One thing that I have wondered not only with onions but garlic and echalotes as well... after you have the seeds and you sprout them, plant them; after how much time or how do you know an onion is ready for harvesting? You should do a follow up vid!!!

PS. I just sprouted some lichee seeds and just passed them to a container with soil. Sad thing is that they will just be a small ornamental tree because the weather here won't be enough for them to give some fruit, but nature always give us surprises, so you never know...
the onions will pop out of the ground when they are ready. Garlic takes a full year to mature and I planted a couple in the spot these onions were in.
