Curator's Life: Uninvited guests

in #animals8 years ago (edited)

Today whilst at work I receive a message from my sister inlaw who lives inland, a very long distance inland on a farm. The message reads "there's something spooking the dogs, hopefully it's not another boar getting into the fences". Being in the outback boars tend to be a problem from time to time.

She grabs her shotgun, gets on her ATV, let's loose the dogs and heads out after the dogs. At one of the very furthest paddocks she sees shapes moving, and hears rustling amongst the dense scrub in one of her furthest outreaches, the dogs hold up at a fence boundy barking, the barking causes the dark shapes to scatter along the fence line, she messages "something big is here, looks like someone's come for tea with friends".

Uninvited guests in the Australian outback, a mob of bush chickens, and here I was hoping for bunyips.

Bush chickens? Is that what you call Emus? A wild one got loose years ago in the Sierra foothills. Chased us kids a couple times, mean fucking birds.

"Emu" became a cursed word after the war

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

Today whilst at work I recieve a message from my sister inlaw who lives inland, a very long distance inland on a farm.
It should be receive instead of recieve.

Ah, great catch. Will fix, thank you.
