Twisted metal | One Of Sony's Most Forgotten Sagas

in INVEN Gaming4 years ago (edited)

If you were one of the lucky ones who had a Playstation at that time, it is almost obvious that you remember those car fighting games like Vigilante 8, but one saga that stood out was Twisted Metal, more than anything because of how interesting some were their characters in their time. The nineties were the golden age of this genre, and ironically, it is a very forgotten genre even though it had great potential online, which, if applied properly, would be one of the most fun styles of play.

Twisted Metal was a video game for the first Playstation that was released in 1995, by SingleTrack, and that featured car battles with the particular touch that it had characters that had very specific cars, each one had their abilities, advantages and disadvantages in a combat. If you are from that time, you will remember that it was a success, and that it had 4 main installments on the same console, each one with greater or lesser success, although its second and fourth installments were the most relevant for the console among its consumers.

The Leap to a New Generation

After establishing itself as one of the best-known sagas of the first Playstation, it had to make the leap to the next generation, with the PS2. The title in question was Twisted Metal Black, which was successful on the console, considering the sales the console had, which was overwhelming for video game history. This particular game was almost the pinnacle of the series, because not only was it a fun game that attracted new audiences, but it was a darker and more serious installment of the series.

This would not be the last attempt of the saga on this console. Due to the success of Twisted Metal Black, 4 years later Twisted Metal Head On was released, the first title in the new generation saga to be released on a portable console. It was released for the PSP and PS2 respectively, and although it did not have the same success as its predecessor, it was adapted to its fans. Graphically it was not so surprising, because for the console more impressive games had already come out in the technical section, although the saga as such was never characterized by being visually impressive, but by being a purely fun game that you have to get used to. its particular mechanics, and this game was more than enough for the role.

The First Online of the Saga

The last game in the series so far was Twisted Metal (2012) for PS3, which offered a solid and interesting story mode for a game in the series and was a stark contrast at the time to the hyper-realistic games most wanted. This game bet on the classic, and this was very noticeable in its controls, which completely ignored the standards offered by the racing games of the generation. The game itself was acclaimed for its interesting competitive modes and it was the first time in the series to definitively test the online service offered by next-generation consoles. Unfortunately this was the last game in the series to date, and although it was not so badly received, we have not heard from the series further.

Verdict

In short, Twisted Metal is one of those video game sagas from the first Playstation that got stuck, like Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. This generation has already shown us that great classics can be revitalized, as is the case with the new games in the Doom saga, which without ignoring its classic formula manages to create a game that looks modern. The last installment of the saga achieved something similar, but without much success in terms of sales. There is currently a series in production of the saga, and although we don't know anything about whether there will be a new game, let's hope that with this news the future of the saga is promising, because it deserves it.
