Most Android Antivirus Apps are Crap
So I was collecting my @partiko points today by watching some ads. I stumbled upon this ad on an antivirus app for Android.
This reminded me about a report from AV-Comparatives I read the other day. In their Android AV test results, AV-Comparatives found that of the 250 apps tested, only 80 were able to detect over 30% of malicious apps. Of which only less than 10% got a 100% detection rate and about 20% had over 90% detection rate. In this year and age, we should all aiming for 100% detection with the understanding that zero-days are hard to prevent.
Only use these antivirus apps
Below is the list of Android antivirus apps that were able to detect 100% of the malicious apps AV-Comparatives threw at them.
If you are using anything outside of this list, please consider switching. Most of those apps are potential spywares or adwares that trick users to install. What's worse is that these antivirus apps are usually installed with lots of permissions, making them highly risky if they are indeed malware.
Conclusion
Be really careful with what you are installing on your mobile phone. These days, we use our mobile phones for many sensitive transactions and we certainly won't want our phone to be compromised.
