Discovered 5 planets within a week! - And my thoughts on Nextcolony Yamato update
I have been busy handling some personal matters in the past week, hence I did not write as much as I like to. However, there was still time for me to play a bit of NextColony everyday. As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, you only need 10-15 minutes each day to play this game and that is what I like about this game. :)
In this post when I was celebrating the discovery of my fifth planet, I talked about how this is a strategic planet as it is right beside a plot of unexplored area. Sure enough, using this planet as a base, I managed to discover my sixth planet rather quickly. However, I certainly did not expect to find so many planets so quickly. 5 planets within a span of 7 days is quite remarkable for a free-to-play player (I have not spent any money on this game thus far).
Here are the 5 planets that I found recently. 4 of them are common and 1 of them is a uncommon planet.
With the discovery of these 5 planets, I have now 11 planets under my control. Looking at the ranking table of the top 200 players, there are many of them with less than 11 planets. Therefore, with my 11 planets, I am now hopeful that I will be able to be ranked among the top 200 eventually. Exploring for new planets is still my primary focus moving forward while I build up my older planets to maximum production.
Yamato Update
@nextcolony announced the Yamato update in this recent post. With the introduction of this update, players will get a chance to win some STEEM from the reward pool (currently announced to be 50,000 STEEM!).
So what is the Yamato update and how do players win STEEM? @nextcolony provided more details in this post. Here are some key points that were mentioned in the post,
- You can earn reward points by upgrading and defending your Yamatos or by attacking Yamatos of your opponents. Your reward points are converted into STEEM, Items, and Stardust at the end of each season. Places 1-10 earn STEEM according to reward points.
- At the start of the Yamato module, all owners of each legendary planet will receive 10 Yamato blueprints. You can activate them on a planet of your choice but choose it wisely. There are currently 10 legendary planets (including Earth), so 100 blueprints would be distributed. We will not use the 10 blueprints of the earth, but share them to you in contests.
- Every season has its name. The name of the first season is Nemesis. The first season lasts probably 30 days and starts after the Yamato module. We define the duration of the season at the start of each new season. Each season also has an individually defined prize pool (STEEM) and an individually defined leach rate.
- Reward Points will be converted into STEEM, Items, and Stardust at the end of each season. At the end of the season, the reward points are going to be reset to zero and Yamatos will be reset to level/tier 0.
"Places 1-10 earn STEEM according to reward points" is a little ambiguous and it sounded as if only players ranked 1-10 will be getting rewards. And sure enough, this questioned was asked by @jeanpi1908 in the comments and @nextcolony clarified that all players will be able to covert reward points into STEEM, items and/or Stardust at the end of each season.
Overall, this brings a new dimension to the game. Only the owners of the 10 legendary planets (@nextcolony is the owner of Earth and the 10 blueprints for Earth will be distributed to other players separately) will be able to build Yamato ships. I envisage that these players will become "leaders" of the game. Each creating their own faction. They will gather support from players around the universe to help defend their Yamato and attack opponents' Yamato. It will be interesting how this will evolve and I am sure it will be quite a show. I am certainly looking forward to 15th November when this update is released.

It's not difficult to start but it can be quite a grind initially
