Lomandra... Pleasure and Pain
Lomandra is an Australian Native plant otherwise known as the Spiny head Mat Rush. The plant grows in a clump and has underground rhizomes ( like a bulb or enlarged root ). It is drought tolerant but also enjoys a good drenching occasionally. Lomandra has shiny, strap - like leaves and spikes of creamy white coloured flowers interspersed with sharp thorns. You can grow this plant by seed or by dividing the clumps in late winter to Spring and can be grown either in a container or in the garden bed. This plant was photographed ( first photo) on the harbourside in Sydney. Source for second image.
