A compilation of beautiful Chinese music (ft. Dongye Song's single 空港曲)

Dongye Song - 空港曲

I was randomly strolling by Spotify as I always do when I was called by a really beautiful song that had a trumpet and a flute. I love trumpets and flutes, and the man really has a beautiful voice and a good musical taste. The song is called 空港曲. Google Translate says it means "airport songs".

Beauty comes sometimes in the form of exoticness and difference. This language is so foreign to me that I don't understand even one word in the song, but this lets me focus more on the pronunciation, the voice itself and the music behind it. It's a wonderful composition.

Here is Dongye Song's beautiful 2017 single 空港曲:

萬能青年旅店 - 殺死那個石家莊人

This one starts a bit dull. I thought it was going to be only a pretty ballad, that is, until the trumpet hit in. You know I love it when there is a discrete trumpet hiding somewhere, quietly making my life more enjoyable. These artists seem to be 90s rock idols. I really loved their music, so I support their idolness.

This song is called 殺死那個石家莊人, translated by Spotify as Kill the One from Shijiazhuang. Please don't kill anyone, but do listen to this awesome rock track.

Desert Chang - 兩者

Desert Chang has a beautiful voice. The ambience reminds me of the sad air in slow and melodic progressive rock or even shoegaze. For this song called 兩者 (Significant Others), imagine a drama soundtrack, then imagine a tear of melancholy spoken in post-rock and join them both together.

Something I love about this track is the intermittence with which the guitar comes and goes, bringing and taking the rock feeling with itself. Sometimes it's just a ballad and sometimes it carries the chilling winds of a winter storm.

Bisiugroup - 電火王

I like this song because it reminds me of old Venezuelan rock. It's so dancey. The voice is not at all melodic, but the emotion and the variety of the instruments make up for it. I really want to just shake and shake and shake. Sometimes I swear I can hear "tate queso y tequila", but there is no tequila.

This song with a party spirit is called 電火王, translated by Google Translate as Electric Fire King. I can recognise the fire and king characters! I have no idea what it's talking about, though, and Spotify says it's explicit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There's not much more to say about this awesome track of pure happiness, dance and party. Just jump in and move that torso like a fish.

Waa Wei - 曬傷

Translated by Google Translate as Sunburn, the track 曬傷 by Waa Wei seems like a minimalistic playground rock song. I don't know if it's the xylophone, but I imagine I'm playing with coloured cubes with this song on the background. But don't worry. I don't deal in dull music. This track has its own inner spirit. A track with a beautiful soul can't go wrong.

If you're Vietnamese, you're in luck. This video comes with Viet subtitles.

告五人 - 愛在夏天

This is the first real drama ballad. There is nothing to it except its slow beauty. I love the singer's voice, the interesting instruments and the raw spirit that the song carries. It seems like a lonely song created by an indie project. It has an air of originality. There is a long and lovely guitar solo that is just as lovely as the rest of the song. I keep thinking electric guitars should be used as violins from time to time in orchestras.

Constant & Change - 在你死後才想起曾經答應陪你去散步

This is one of my favourites of the list particularly because of the song's name. Google translates it as "I remember that I promised to accompany you for a walk after you died". It's a winner microstory in my heart. It's so touching and makes me imagine what sad thoughts may have led to the phrase.

Most here, I assume, have had family members die. For me, I had someone very close to me die. I had never felt anything for anyone, even after they had died, but for a few months afterwards, and even now sometimes, I felt as if a piece of me were gone, and phrases like this would pop up.

Just walking again with him would make me so happy and sad at the same time.

These Taiwanese rock band really captured a feeling in their song. It's an instrumental track, but it's awesome and definitely worth it. I have saved all of these tracks for posterity and random encounters when I shuffle-play my song-list on Spotify.

Lim Giong - A Pure Person

This 2001 track is just awesome. It's techno, but it carries the same spirit as many other songs that I shared here. This soft and pure stream of melancholy flows through the notes perfectly. Unlike many techno tracks that bore me out of repetitiveness, in here, the repetitiveness is trance-inducing and very beautiful. It slowly transforms and calls on me like a snake enchanter.

The title of the song is funny, though. :P It reminds me of a real human bean.

If I understood what the singer is saying, I bet I would be enchanted like a snake, but I don't have any idea, so I have no choice but to simply enjoy the music and feel as if I were drunk and floating in a cosmic cloud.

老王樂隊 - 我還年輕 我還年輕

This track is another one of my favourites from the list. I really, really, really love the happy and melodious energy that is transmitted since the first second of the song. It's not mishandled and is perfectly carried through all the climaxes and valleys until the end. I love the voice of the singer, the instrumental solos, and even the aura of it. It's all made of lovely.

Translating the name of the artists and the name of the song in Google gives me this: Lao Wang Band - I am still young, I am still young. Let's hear and enjoy this song of youth and love:

Bonus track: Another one by Dongye Song

The compilation is done, but I really wanted to post another Dongye Song song. It's just beautiful. This artist is definitely my favourite out of all of the above. Even before I googled him, I was in love with his voice, but now that I saw that he's an adorable fatty, I can't let go.

This music is too beautiful. I'm a fan now. Here's his 2018 single that incorporates the cutting edge technology of guitar arpeggios and a post-rock guitar solo. His voice is also less distorted and more appreciable. What more can we ask?

Do you like this music? Which one is your favourite?
