Dear Diary: I Am Disheartened About The State Of Patients At My Dialysis CentersteemCreated with Sketch.

in #health5 years ago

I see some patients in my dialysis center go weak and some are unable to walk like me considering that they are new patients. It should not be the case but it is the reality in my dialysis center as we are treated with less experienced nurses who are afraid to take actions for the benefit of the patients.

So what is the fuss all about?

I blame the inexperienced dialysis nurses for our demise as most of us had a lot of extra water in our bodies. A patient I see is just painful to watch because he is suffering from a cough due to fluids in his lungs. His feet also is plump with edema. So he coughs and coughs and I do not know if he can sleep like that.

I had been in that situation and lucky for me that the former head nurse is just easy to talk with. I would request my dry weight to get adjusted by the kilos and just two dialysis sessions my breathing went okay again like magic because the dialysis machine sucked all of my lung fluids.

I Thank God Because I Am Not Coughing

Now the nurses are apprehensive in drawing out water thinking that it would crash the patient's blood pressure. It does really crash the blood pressure but there are ways to fix that like not taking blood pressure medication before the session or raising the feet while on session.

Well I tell that and they would not listen, they always look at the charts thinking that the patient's last bout of blood pressure drop is the point that they stop drawing out extra water from the patients.

So what would happen is that the patients would get dialyzed without having a full relief because they have extra fluids in the body. They return home maybe their blood cleaned but they are weak.

We Love Nurses But Some Will Cost You Your Life

I wasn't like that in my previous center because I do not rely on the nurses opinions as i know myself better. Thankfully my previous nurses are very kind and listens to me and not mainly on their charts. My body just went weak, stiffened, pained, and deformed because of my other bone condition that is called Leontiasis.

But the extra water issue had contributed a lot of for my misery so now I am just reliant in wheelchair so I can move around.

The patients in turn have large bellies due to edema and could not walk. Now the nurses are immune to that believing it is okay still and do not care. All they care about is getting the dialysis done and would call it a day. Soon they will leave the country after practicing on us and it is called a #braindrain.

Then new nurses would practice on us again and the cycle begins again.

Sort:

Is the coughing contagious? I sure hope not... Inexperienced nurses are very unfortunate, @cryptopie. I pray you find some really good care.

It is a kind of coughing that is not from an infection. It is because of the fluids in the lungs. Sometimes you yourself can hear their crackling sound because of that. Even I myself have some fluids in my lungs because of extra water in my body.

This is definitely NOT good.
