In life there comes a time when decisions are thrust upon you, you may well be one of those people who prefer to go through life not having to make decisions, don’t worry there are many people like this, in fact, there are statistics to show that the majority of people do not like to make decisions, this is why people who CAN! make decisions and good quality decisions at that tend to command a high premium.
For some deciding what cereal to have for breakfast can prove to be quite a task.
In this piece I am going to describe three scenarios where decisions have to be made and leave you to decide what, if any decisions you would make.
Scenario One:
You are walking back home at night from wherever you are coming from, the road is dimly lit but you can see fairly well, you turn the corner into the next street on your route, you continue, suddenly you hear a loud voice, it was a female voice, there is no mistaking what the voice is saying, “help me!”, it is crying out, you look to see where the voice is coming from, it seemed to be coming from the other side of the road, approximately twenty metres from where you are standing you can see two figures, one male, one female both partly hidden by the cars parked on the kerb, both engaged in a struggle. The woman is clearly the person crying out for help. They are both unaware of your presence.
What would you do?
Scenario Two:
You’ve gone out to pick up a few essentials from the supermarket, bread, milk, whatever, you decide. What you are after is not worth the trip to a major supermarket so you go to your local supermarket. Their prices are steep even for an independent supermarket and have always found the shop keeper a little bit rude but you have no choice he’s got you by the short and curly because he is the only supermarket within walking distance from where you live.
You go in and begin to pick out the items that you need, you notice a couple shopping beside you, the girl was particularly striking in an unconventional sort of way and they both looked quite trendy, the neighbourhood is getting quite trendy you thought lazily as you continue to shop, suddenly you notice the lady pick up a bottle of expensive perfume and put it in her handbag, you do a double take, what? You slow down and let them go ahead of you, now you are really paying attention, you continue to shop but now your focus is mainly on the couple, they move to the toiletry section and you follow, again the lady picks up a hair product and puts it in her handbag, by now it is clear to you what is going on. They continue shopping and so do you but you continue to follow and watch. The lady picked up two more items for the handbag; they then picked up a few groceries which went into the shopping basket. They went to the counter to pay and you follow, as the guy placed the shopping basket on the counter the lady places a hand on his shoulders and says, “I’ll wait for you outside”, “okay” the guy replies and with that the lady turns and heads out of the store with the items still in her handbag all unpaid for, the guy pays for the groceries, packs them into a carrier bag and heads out to join his partner.
You were queued right behind them and saw and heard everything that happened.
What would you do?
Scenario Three:
You are driving to work and running late, you have been late quite a few times your manager has noticed this and has had a “chat” with you about this, you are in no doubt that you are on a warning if not your final warning, you are of the impression that your manager does not particularly like you.
You are coming up to a traffic light which at the moment is showing green, you are a short distance away from passing through and you are hoping and praying that the light doesn’t turn red before you pass through, there is just one car ahead of you.
As you approach the light it turns amber, the car ahead of you speeds up to beat the light, as it cuts through the light and turns into the road that leads on it clips a motorcycle beside it, the motor bike falls over as does the rider riding it, the rider falls and tumbles, he tries to get up, he does not appear to be life threateningly injured but he seemed badly bruised and shaken and would obviously need a witness especially one that saw the number plate of the hit and run driver. He obviously needs some form of assistance both in terms of his wellbeing (helping him to sit and get his orientation back, first aid, calling an ambulance, etc.) and filling a report, (police insurance, etc.).
You are ideally placed to do all these.
What would you do?
