SevenDaysOutside challenge - StreetLampSunday - Aberaeron car park, Wales ...

I took this photo back in August this year in Aberaeron on the same day I took photos of those cherry-tomato looking rose hips. You can read more about them here.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find out much about this extremely ornate type of street lamp. All I can tell you is that it was in a car park and it was extremely attractive with so much trimming in that fleur de lys and shell repeat pattern; it reminded me of lace.

I actually didn't bother to take a photo of the whole lamp post. I remember I was so happy to be able to get that detail with my mobile phone. My children are very patient teenagers who are used to their mum taking 'odd' photos. At that time I didn't have an outlet for this offering. Now thanks to this photo challenge I can share it.

One of the reasons why I took the photo was the blue sky behind and also because I have been trying to force myself to draw things that I do not normally find easy.

In future I will try to photograph the background to include some context for my photos.

I always try to add a bit of value to my posts by 'researching' about the topic. My searches on the topic of 'street lamps in Aberaeron' were fruitless. In fact, all I found was this photo from pinterest which I wonder whether or not you will be able to see. It shows a similar street lamp to the one I photographed.

Thanks for reading :D

I wonder if that lamp is an original, looks like its from generations ago.. Very cool and retro.

It does look very retro, @solominer... I will have to look out for more like that next time I visit that town :D

I love these old fashioned lamp posts @cryptocariad. That one's very pretty. We still have some in Brighton and Hove but not as many as the modern ones.

I tried to find out the name of the style of this type of street light but didn't come up with anything, @gillianpearce...and in any case it made me doubt whether or not it was Victorian, any suggestions ?

They're quite plain now in comparison, aren't they? but I guess they do their job more effectively :D

I had a good look around too @cryptocariad but couldn't find anything either.

My guess would be that it was Victorian, from the way it looks, but it could just as easily be a replica.

it's frustrating when you can't find out this sort of information isn't it? 😊

Thanks ! and yes, I agree, @gillianpearce... it's a bit frustrating because you want to go a bit further than just uploading a photo...

Great #streetlampsunday @cryptocariad! Beautiful old lamp. Love the details. There is also an interesting square medallion/seal on the post. Sometimes a little mystery is good :)

Thank you, @steven-patrick. I also noticed that square and sort of regret not getting a clearer snap of it ! As I said above I will have to go back and take more photos ... I will become an expert :D

There are no experts here :) just people having fun

I know and I haven't got that much time anyway to read up so much, @steven-patrick :D
