My thick red sweater ...
Today I’ll tell you about my current favourite sweater. I started it at the end of 2019 and finished it nearly a year ago.
I followed this tutorial to make the yoke :
I have noticed that this type of pattern using the crochet granny stitch is still popular. If I make another sweater, I'd use left-over colour yarns like this one on ravelry.
My red sweater is made using two strands of red acrylic yarn together and a 5mm hook. Right from the beginning I questioned my choice of colour - red’s never been my favourite - and my use of two strands together. I had so much of that yarn and thought this was the right use for it. The two strands made it too thick (stiff) and the hook should have been 6mm to compensate.
Crocheting such a big item was okay but it became quite repetitive. I kept at it and in about three weeks I was finished and still have some of the yarn left !
Even at the end I was unsure about it all. It looks fine (except for the colour), but it was the weight of it that caused most concern.
I even made a joke that it could stand by itself like a sculpture :
I’m glad I kept the sweater though. This winter it’s been very comfortable to wear around my cold house I'm glad I persevered!
