Colour Challenge - Monday Red : Red Telephone Box

Here is my entry for the #colorchallenge #mondayred initiated by @kalemandra.

I took the photograph of this currant red telephone box in Tregaron, Wales on a rainy day for a change.

I thought the telephone box looked very well looked after considering people just carry their mobiles now and do not really need a box to phone, but they still offer privacy.

I learnt a couple of facts about telephone boxes because in the past I had noticed that there are variations in shape. They were originally designed by an architect called Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.

The telephone box pictured above is a K6, where the K stands for kiosk, and was introduced in 1935.

Many towns are getting rid of their telephone boxes and they can fetch quite high prices. Some villages, however, see their historical value and try to find alternative uses for them. There is one such village near us where their telephone box has become a mini library. Residents can visit their telephone box to borrow books and then return them there. I will try to take a photo of that particular case to share.
