Bootstrap Fungus ... finally learnt its name...

I had been intrigued by this fungus for ages, so I felt really lucky when I stumbled across this website. The website refers to all sorts of rot on wood and there it was 'Bootstrap fungus'.

The root-like structures (called rhizomorphs) come from honey mushrooms (armillaria mellea). I had seen the mushrooms around but never imagined the two were connected. Next time I find more bootstrap (or shoestring) fungus I must check for differences in colour because they get darker as they age...

I was always attracted by the dark lines because they reminded of tree branches and ... There's another photo below...

I don't think I have ever seen this fungus before, very unusual looking compared to others I have noticed around and about.

I must try and check what trees are 'affected' by it... it's so damp and mossy everywhere...

That's really neat. It reminds me of veins. I've never seen that in here.... but I love to take pics after the rain of the "trails" termites and bugs eat into the wood. Thanks for sharing.
