Payment giant Mastercard announced on Thursday that it hired 175 new technology developers, including blockchain specialists. The developers will work at Mastercard's office in Leopardstown, Ireland, where the headquarters of the research and development company is located. New employees will work on creating more efficient payment systems. Sonya Gellon, Master Card Manager in Ireland, said the company is working on expanding access to financial services:

"We are working on projects that promote financial inclusion and strive to provide consumers, businesses, and governments with the most innovative, secure and secure payment methods."

This is a remarkable development, given that Mastercard has for some time been monitoring the application of block technology for the services the company offers. The company released in 2016 a set of experimental APIs that are based on block technology.
October, the company announced that it would use these programs to facilitate business transactions.

Mastercard's ambitions to block technology are related to the company's efforts to obtain a patent related to technology.
Last September, Mastercard's patent application focuses on storing payment history data. Two months later, another Mastercard application describes a block-based solution designed to speed up transaction settlement time.
