Pokemon GO... CIA Surveillance Tool?
Everyone can agree Pokemon Go woke the world up. It might of been a brief craze but it certainly was on another level. The whole world was out chasing Pokemon. The hype lasted a few weeks but it certainly showed the upcoming power of augmented reality.
This blog takes a twist thanks to the Wikileaks Vault 7 CIA release in January. Wikileaks revealed the names of CIA programmes that targeted Android flaws. What's worrying is the name of the CIA's programme names. According to Wikileaks some of the hacking programmes were named after Pokemon. Tododile, Starmie and Spearow and even an exploit named Dugtrio...
Starmie: A common water Pokemon code name for the CIA is said to of infiltrated android devices: Galaxy Note and other tablets aswell as Android device on 4.0 to 4.12 firmware.
Spearow: The flying type bird Pokemon was supposedly a code name for a hacking tool that allowed remote access to personal data.
Apparently other Pokemon names was used as code names such as Snubbull, Lugia, Steelix and Flaafy.
I've read a lot online about Pokemon Go's links to the CIA and in this day and age with all that has been revealed in the last few years it wouldn't surprise me if the App was some sort of research or tool briefly used. It was gob smacking watching the brainwash take over and also shocking to see how quick the hype died out. I haven't seen a player since the first 2/3 weeks of its release in the UK. I was one of the lucky few on android who downloaded the game a few weeks before the release here in the UK. It was a fascinating app that changed society for a moment and it's almost mad to think it was less than a year ago.
What is your thought's on Pokemon Go? Do you think it had some intentions of spying the public is not yet aware of? Comment below on your theory!
