Easy Peach Jam Recipe

Three Ingredient Peach Spread

The other day we bought a basket of peaches and decided to make some jam with some of them. We didn't have Pectin, a natural ingredient which makes your jam into a gel but it turned out to be just as delicious and not so runny. Making peach jam the easy way is simple. You just need peaches, lemon juice, and sugar.

That's all you need, three easy to find ingredients. It doesn't matter exactly how much of each item you put in there, some recipes want 1-1 for sliced peaches and sugar, which is ridiculous. We went with a 2-1 ratio and added just over a tablespoon of lemon juice per cup of sugar.

The first thing you want to do is peel, slice and remove the pits from your peaches. It's easier to remove the skin from the peaches if you blanch them beforehand. Scald some peaches in boiling water for about 45 seconds then add them to cool water to make the skin come off easier.

Now, most recipes want you to heat the peaches in a saucepan on medium heat for 15 minutes or so before adding the sugar and lemon juice but we didn't bother- this is an easy recipe after all and having to follow directions adds complexity. We just heated the whole mix for about 20 minutes or so mashing the peaches down while stirring it.

Once the jam boils, just reduce the heat a little and stir it. You don't want to make a mess of your pan or burn the mix. Then let it cool and put it in a jar. Since we didn't make too much jam and it won't last long anyways we didn't bother sterilizing the jar and let the jam cool a little first. Dealing with hot jam and jars in boiling water does not make this recipe easy!

Best paired with homemade bread

Hope you enjoyed reading about homemade peach jam. It's so simple to make and a similar recipe can be followed with most of your favorite fruits although some are more watery than others. If you want to make 'real jam' just add some pectin.

Thank you and enjoy!

It sure was!

I think precise methods depend on if you plan on leaving it in long term storage or not. If it is made well, it can have a shelf life of years. My guess is you ate most of it before it cooled down.

It sure was tasty, it was a couple weeks ago and there's still half a jar. Nothing's wrong with it yet. We keep it in the fridge.
