The power of the pen. A 5 minute freewrite

There is the old saying that the pen is mightier than the sword.

For me that stands true. I think because the winners write the history books. We weren’t there 800 years ago to know exactly how the war was won. Who was sacrificed to do it and what atrocities were committed in the process.

It is well known that people have very selective memories and if you had to murder thousands to win the war would you really want the next generation to know about it?

So when the story is written or reports submitted you leave that part out.

Your legacy is safe and future generations study your greatness.

All because of strokes from a pen.

History is permanent, it’s just a matter of what version is told. So does this mean that writers hold all the power?

To a certain extent, yes.

I have seen governments and celebrities taken down and destroyed from articles and reports. Some fabricated, some true. But when people see it written down on paper it seems to hold more power.

We read it and believe it to be true.

While you can’t kill a person with a sword anymore, you can certainly do it with a pen if you so choose....
