Ocean's 8 - My personal opinion (MPO)
This film was enjoyable, but forgettable. The most interesting thing about it was the attempts to copycat Steven Soderbergh's slick camera work with zoom in/outs and the turns of the camera Soderbergh would substitute two different shots into one. When the film was committed to copying that style, it was fun and worked well. But it often went into stretches of standard camera movements and wiork, which left a somewhat jarring feel once the the Soderbergh/Oceans 11 style returned. The needed to commit to it and the film's flow and pace would've greatly improved.
Also, Cate Blanchett definitely didn't have anything to do here. Nothing notable about her character or her performance, but that's not her fault. She was just really underwritten.
This is what Ghostbusters should have been. A soft reboot of the franchise that respects the past films with respect and care.
This is very much in line with the Oceans trilogy. The cast is fun and the film is enjoyable. They did a good job with the cameos roles.
I was entertained. I, however, never felt that the characters were at risk, so there isn’t a whole lot of thrill in the movie. I consistently waited for something to go “wrong” but it just never happened. Also wasn’t a fan of the “oh by the way, we stole every other jewel in the museum as well”. I did love the music selection in the movie.
Anne Hathaway’s legitimately phenomenal in this, she gives the best performance of the franchise by far and almost manages to retroactively make up for Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis in Ocean’s Twelve. Completely transcends the usual “haha I’m being meta and making fun of myself/Hollywood” performance that the script settled for, and adds a smart/sexy layer that the movie otherwise lacked without Soderbergh’s direction.
It was better than I expected.

The background songs were really spectacular. The music director of this Ocean 8 did a wonderful work for selecting good music, most especially from Daniel pemberton.
