Steem Desktop v.0.1 - New Statistics Added [Changelog July 27, 2017]
Recently, I introduced Steem Desktop, a desktop application that, in its most current form, displays statistics from the Steem blockchain. I'm saying 'its most current form' because its direction is not set in stone. See the release post.
Since the first release, I've been actively working (as I could find time) to adding more statistics and functionalities to the app. Here are two relevant snapshots of the current version v.0.1 and some explanations below.
Now, the explanations:
- the 'User Account' tab remains just about the same (in terms of statistics displayed)
- in the 'Last Post' tab, the following have been added:
- 'Resteemed by' - showing the users who reblogged/resteemed the post
- 'Replies' - the current replies/comments count for the post
- 'Current Payout' - the current payout for the post
- Some aesthetic changes.
The most important change for this version, which took me the most time to conceptualize and then code was the 'auto-refresh' function. If 'Auto-Refresh' is enabled, it will, intuitively, refresh the statistics every 30 seconds, so you wouldn't actually have to click the 'Retrieve' button for that. This is convenient and it's probably the feature that got me 'hooked' to having the app opened for a few hours a day; we're novelty seeking creatures and the potentially updated 'vote count'/'payout'/'resteemed by' is a driver of excitement (and dopamine).
Anyhow, if I keep expanding the app, the code may get quite lengthy and my purpose is optimize the logistics.
Also, important to mention is that I'm working with Python 3.5, instead of 3.4 (as in the release version) and I also started using the official steem-python library alongside piston.
Up next - on the list for this project:
- create another tab to display the last 'x' (number) of votes given by the user (to posts and comments), with the weight (%) and permlink.
So far, I don't know of any steem related app to do this; if you guys know of any, please let me know! Again, see the current version of the app in my github:

Thank you for working on this. It's projects like this that make Steemit more and more interesting. I'll download it this weekend and start using it.
