Lisbon - Part 2

in #photography7 years ago

Hello friends!
As I promised, here is the second part of my trip to Lisbon. There are beautiful places, monuments and museums that you can visit. One of them is undoubtedly the Padrão dos Descobrimentos. Designed by the architect Cottinelli Telmo (1897 - 1948) and the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida (1898 - 1975), the Monument of the Discoveries was built for the first time in 1940. In 1960 it is rebuilt in concrete and stone masonry rosal Leiria, and the sculptures in limestone stonework in Sintra. In 1985 it was inaugurated as Cultural Center of the Discoveries and interior was remodeled, providing a viewing point, auditorium and exhibition halls.

There are a huge amount of museums in this city, but this should not be missed, Museu Nacional dos Coches. On May 23, 1905, was inaugurated in Lisbon the "Museu dos Coches Reaes" . It was initiated by Queen Amelia d'Orleães and Bragança, Princess of France and married in 1886 to the future King of Portugal, D. Carlos I. the first museum of Coches of the world was the hall of the old Picadeiro Real, built by the Italian architect Giacomo Azzolini in 1726. In 1911 the museum was renamed Museu Nacinal dos Coches and in 1944 is inaugurated a new hall designed by the architect Raul Lino. This place still remains but there is a new space built with a modern architecture where you can see the Coches and exhibitions.
