WE SAVED BEES FROM A LAMP-POST!

Hey everyone, we have not done a feral bee rescue in a few weeks, going into winter they tend to swarm much less hence the need for us to rescue them dwindles, until summer again.

Interesting pic right? What is that? The inside of a lamp post those black gadgets are security beams, bees certainly do find the craziest of places to make their home.

This came as a surprise to us well into Autumn, but what a lovely surprise it was. A chap called us up with a new swarm that had just moved into his Lamp Post outside his house. We got our gear and off we went to go and save some more bees from sure extermination.

When we got to the site we saw a the lamp and were almost disappointed as we suspected they had possibly left, but alas they were there. We were faced with an immediate problem, our nozzle to suck them out is rather large and they are well huddled at the back in the corner how would we get them out?

Luckily for us we were able to loosen and lift the lamp part away from the hollow post, which then made this a rather simple procedure for us, sheew....

They were just below this unit in the post, which we easily lifted, sucked the bees off the base, put on the ground and began to work!

This pole housed in the middle was exposed as we lifted off the main lamp, the bees scrambled to enter, not a big dilmena for us as we gently sucked them out of this.

This was our first Autumn/Winter rescue, very interesting to see how bees behave differently in different seasons. Generally we have the odd 'kamakazi' which dive bombs us in defense of their hive, in winter not so much, they were very 'chilled'..

This whole rescue took us around an hour which by all means and purposes rather quick and relative to some tougher ones we have endured in the past, a greatly appreciated pleasure.

Within just another hour we had placed their small comb back into a new hive for them, re-hived, relocated and the next day off they went happy to be alive and free!

Be sure to stay tuned for more of my epic bee-keeping adventures!

Cheer$;)
