THE CIRCLE OF LIFE!!

Hey eveyone, well this was a bitter sweet moment. I love bees, most of you that follow me regularly know this. What is not to love? They are one of the most essential links to life on Earth and are the second most studied species on Earth behind humans.

I recently cultivated and planted some perennial basil.

Perennial basil is brilliant for winter feed for the bees so I am cultivating and planting as much as I can as fast as I can as we are approaching Winter, this will be my first winter in this wonderful journey that is bee-keeping!

It has been an excellent season both for honey flow as well as rainfall. This is what the plot next door looks like, totally overgrown, with a small perennial basil plant in the foreground.

On my visit to this site I saw something that humbled me. This was the sight of the last legs of gorgeous worker bee. Her wings were frayed and she could no longer fly. Bees literally work themselves to death.

The average bee-hive comprises of around just 40 000 bees, so you may be thinking, this is just one bee and just 1 life and in the greater scheme of things does it really matter you may ask? YES it matters and it matters to me!

Everything on Earth contributes to the correct functioning of life on Earth from the smallest microbe to the biggest Whale. I was thankful to this lovely bee for her contribution and it was such a fitting end to such a gorgeous life for her to be on her favourite plant in her last hours!

Maybe I am too empathetic and I probably 'Feel' too much, I do however feel that we as humans need more of this characteristic ultimately this creates a happier environment for everything man or beast.

I took these pics as an ODE to bees and nature and I think this was a fitting end to this overworked and tired bee.

I am not a very religious man but there certainly is something very 'spiritual' about moments like this!

It is nice to have emphaty towards your own bees, but it is good too keep a balance. You can't have empathy towards all creatures, and in certain occupations in holds you back. Imagine if a doctor had full empathy towards all patients, that would make them stressed out, and unable to continue to heal others.
