An AWOL swarm left us some art!!!

Hey everyone, what a bitter sweet day this was, more bitter than sweet though and here's why. This was a very new swarm, one can see by the white combs, as combs age they get darker this coupled with the fact there are not too many complete combs, sadly as these bees left.

The sweet part came into play when we opened up and saw this magnificent natural form of art!

How incredible is that construction work? See how the cells are built back to back the centre point 'supporting' it's opposite significant other, pure genius.

What we have in these wax combs are simply just pollen and nectar, the colours naturally are derived from the array of different plants and flowers they forage!

Here we have the frames that we removed from the brooder box for a closer inspection. Those thin wires in the brood frames are for extra support that the bees build around, naturally in nature they do not have this and in my opinion not really necessary.

Bees always build from the middle out. This was the middle frame that had the biggest most developed comb.

We are currently experiencing a honey flow which is really lucking in Winter. What we plan to do with these is bait them with some honey put back in the hive and set the hive in an area to attract another swarm, happy days ;)
