Resort Sîngeorz-Băi
Renowned in the past for mineral waters with terapeutic properties, the resort of Sîngeorz-Băi has almost become a ruin, with closed hotels, frequented only by low-income pensioners in the summer. The locals have no water or sanitation, and the streets are unpaved.
The resort of Sîngeorz-Băi, renowned more than two decades ago for mineral waters with therapeutic properties, such as those from Vichy in France and Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic, is now almost ruinous. Almost all streets are unpaved, and locals have no water or sanitation, Mediafax writes.
The lack of investment in infrastructure in the resort town at the foot of the Rodna Mountains, as well as the lack of investment in tourism and the expedition of mineral waters have transformed Sîngeorz-Băi into a nearly deserted city, frequented only in summer by low-income pensioners.
"How does the town of Sîngeorz-Băi show up in 2018: it is a resort town with over 85% of unpaved streets, with 85% of non-allocated dwellings. We live in a hut. It is inhuman ... We can not invest from the local budget, and so very little, in street repairs, permanently. It seems to me an aberration. Singeorz-Bai stayed only with the resort attestation. At present, tourism brings us to the budget zero lei. In addition to local taxes and charges, no hotel tax or resort tax is levied, so the only income is the taxes and taxes that hotel owners pay to the local budget. In order to restart the tourism in Sîngeorz-Băi, we have many things to do, starting from infrastructure, "Mayor of Sîngeorz-Băi, Traian Ogâgău, told MEDIAFAX.
Sîngeorz-Băi is one of the oldest and most curative spa resorts in Romania, the healing mineral waters coming from several springs in the area. However, the authorities can not do much to exploit, rehabilitate and capitalize on sources because they have been leased by a firm in the city and are being exploited for years, even if no investments have been made.
Moreover, the authorities expected the publication in the Official Gazette of the concession of mineral water concessions, which would effectively bring into force the concession for 20 years of mineral waters.
"The springs of mineral water are the property of the Romanian state. The state, through the National Agency for Mineral Resources, concedes mineral resources, including water. Hebe is the holder of the exploration license for mineral water resources in Sîngeorz-Băi for a period of 20 years, which will run from the moment the contract will be published in the Official Gazette. So far, the contract is not published, they use in advance, so to say, the mineral water resource. It is a situation at country level, fortunately we have not been abused by concessionaires like in other resorts where there are mineral waters and where access to the mineral water supply has been stopped with a lock, "explained local authorities.
The City Hall of Sângeorz-Băi managed, however, last year to obtain a license to explore the spring Nr. 6 from Singeorz-Bai, one of the most important springs of mineral water in the city, but in an advanced state of degradation.
"We, as a local public authority, obtained a exploration license for a mineral water spring for the first spring captured and exploited in Sîngeorz-Băi, known as the spring number 6. This spring has the highest mineral water flow, but has been left in the crunch. The capture was clogged by deposition of mineral salts. At this time, we are releasing this mineral water resource that can only be reached through a horizontal gallery of about 80 meters. We hope that within a year and a half, after analyzes, we will demonstrate the therapeutic capacities of this spring and we will exploit them, "explained the city's secretary, Traian Sorecău.
About mineral water springs (bicarbonate, chlorate, sodium, calcium, magnesium) are said to cure digestive disorders (gastritis, ulcer, chronic constipation), colic, degenerative rheumatism, chronic pancreatitis, obesity, chronic hepatitis and even gout with joint manifestations.
"We focus on balneo touring. This is how we see the resort in the future - a balko resort, relaxing, preventing many diseases, especially domestic. That was the resort since the attestation and so we wanted to restore it, "the mayor of the resort said.
The village Sîngeorz-Băi has been certified as a resort since the 17th century. Currently, authorities have commissioned a series of new studies to confirm the curative properties of the area and water.
Meanwhile, local authorities are being fought internally, Mayor Traian Ogâgău challenging in court a decision by the Prefect of Bistrita-Nasaud to set up the Commission for the Organization of the Referendum for dismissal.
At the end of September, Prefect of Bistrita-Nasaud County, Ovidiu Frenz, initiated the procedures for organizing a referendum to dismiss the mayor of Sîngeorz-Bai Traian Ogâgău (PNL) after a petition with the civil society was filed with the civil society, accompanied by of nearly 3,000 signatures, requiring the commencement of the mayor's dismissal procedure, which would not have fulfilled its legal obligations and would have prejudiced the city's budget.
