Greenhouse 22-05-2018 - Tom troubles

in #hydroponics8 years ago

A week ago I had a hunch my toms were getting too much fertiliser and I've reduced the strength of the nutrient solution. It's not a hunch anymore; pretty certain now.

The leaves are thick, waxy and with a blueish hue.

They're curling as well.

Even though I've reduced the strength I think there was a bit of salts build up and together with the really high temps we've had recently the plants were not able to take in enough water.

Yesterday I've replaced the solution with plain water and today I've flushed every single bucket and changed the water again. This should hopefully get them to bounce back. I will keep them on plain water for at least a week from now.

I think they will recover, the roots are looking good and quite happy so they weren't stunted by the salts.

There's plenty of flowers but there's a danger they will fall off now because of the plants being over fed; we'll have to see what happens.

On the other hand the beans seem to not have had any issues with the increased amounts of nutrients; if anything they set more fruit.

Same with the salads, which is surprisingly as they're supposed to tolerate only half the nutrients tomato plants take.

Berries are still producing and I've got the first runner rooted.

I'll give it a few more days for the roots to develop further and then I'll move it into the system.

Alright, that's about it.

Cheers
